HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-03-2007City of Auburn Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Disability Board Tuesday, April 3, 2007 -10:00 AM -Council Conference Room MINUTES L CALL TO ORDER Chair Jim Kelly called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Conference Room located at Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn. Chair Kelly and the following Board members were present: Chair Pro Tem Bud Larson (member-at-large), Member Roger Thordarson, Member Lynn Norman, and Member Bill Petersen. Also present were Board Attorney Joseph Beck, Valley Regional Fire Authority Administrator Eric Robertson, Valley Regional Fire Authority Interim Fire Chief Mike Gerber and Board Secretary Danielle Daskam. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Minutes of the March 6, 2007 LEOFF Board Meeting Motion by Chair Pro Tem Larson, second by Member Petersen to approve the March 6, 2007 minutes as distributed. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Pending Disability Leave/Retirement Applications There was no pending disability leave/retirement application. B. Medical/Hearing/Vision Claims There was no pending claim. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. Disability Leave/Retirement Applications No new application for disability leave/retirement was received. B. Appeals/Requests for Reconsideration No appeal or request for reconsideration was filed. C. Medical/Hearing/Vision Claims Ed Henderson a. Request for reimbursement of dental expenses in the amount of $1,144.75. Board members reviewed Mr. Henderson's claim including documents submitted to support the medical necessity of Mr. Henderson's dental procedures and expenses. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. The following claim from Mr. Henderson was added to the agenda: b. Request for reimbursement of dental expenses in the amount of $1,650.45. Board members reviewed Mr. Henderson's claim including documents submitted to support the medical necessity of Mr. Henderson's dental procedures and expenses. Motion by Chair Pro Tem Larson, second by Member Petersen to approve Mr. Henderson's claim as submitted in the amount of $1,650.45. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. 2. Murray Board a. Request for reimbursement of vision expenses in the amount of $85.98. (Mr. Board had not received reimbursement for vision expenses in the last year.) Motion by Member Thordarson, second by Member Petersen to approve Mr. Board's claim in the amount of $85.98. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. Request for reimbursement of medical expenses in the total amount of $135.20 per Regence Explanation of Benefits Statement #0704795023901 for. medical services received on January 31, 2007 and processed by insurance on February 28, 2007 Chair Kelly noted that the Regence Explanation of Benefits Statement indicates that the insurance denied the claim finding that the medical services were routine and preventative. It has been the policy of the Board to deny claims without proof of medical necessity. Motion by Chair Pro Tem Larson, second by Member Petersen to deny the claim finding that the medical services received were routine, preventative and elective. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. c. Request for reimbursement of medical expenses in the total amount of $291.43 per Regence Explanation of Benefits Statements #0705995014300 .and 0705995014200 for medical services received on January 31, 2007 and processed by insurance on March 7 and February 28, 2007. Chair Kelly noted that the Regence Explanation of Benefits Statements indicate that the insurance denied the claims finding that the medical services were routine and preventative. Motion by Member Petersen, second by Chair Pro Tem Larson to deny the claim finding that the medical services received were routine, preventative and elective. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 5-0. D. Correspondence No correspondence was received. E. Discussion There was no discussion.
