CALL TO ORDER The Human Services Committee meeting was called to order by JoAnne Walters at 4:02. pm on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 25 West Main Street, Auburn; WA Committee Members qresent: Barbara Derda,JoAnne Walters, Lela Brugger,Leticia Figueroa, Maryelyn Scholz Absent: Jason Berry,Dana Riel Staff aresent: Director of Administration Dana Hinman, Human Services Manager Erica Azcueta, Human Services Program Coordinator Emily Pearson II. APPROVAL OF MIiVUTES o Member Lela Brugger moved to accept the February 27, 2017 meeting minutes; Member Ma.ryelyn Scholz seconded the motion. All committee members were in favor of adopting the minutes as submitted. The February 27, 2017 meeting minutes were approved. III. AGENDA • Finalizing Agency visit list Erica Azcueta asked the group to comment on the agencies they want to visit in 2017. Member Dana Riel said previously she did not have any preferences and was willing to visit any/all agencies as her schedule allows. Member JoAnne Walters stated that she'd prefer for ANEW to bring in an Auburn client to present at a future Human Services Committee meeting. The list of ageneies was narrowed down to Aubum Respite, Children's Home Society, Children's Therapy Center, Christ Community Free Clinic, Consejo, Courage360, DAWN, Multi-Service Center, Nexus Youth and Families, Orion Industries, Pediatric Interim Care Center, Seattle-King County Mobile Medical, St. Stephen Housing Association, St. Vincent de Paul, The Auburn Food Bank and Ukrainian Community Genter of Washington. Members Barbara Derda and Maryelyn Scholz asked to have a copy of the Nexus (Auburn Youth Resources) application sent to them again. The group discussed inviting Sylvia Fuerstenberg, Executive Direetor and Michelle Hankinson, Program Manager to a future meeting as well as visiting the Nexus facilities. During the discussion Maryelyn mentioned the importanee of clarifying the members' responsibilities to agencies and reminding them of the Committee's role to act in an advisory capacity only. Eriea Azcueta suggested planning a day of Auburn-based visits and Kent-based visits for maximum efficiency. • Agency visit template Emily Pearson distributed sample templates of standards & procedures, pre-visit checklists and monitoring forms for agency visits. She asked the group to bring back any suggestions and/or changes they may have to the April meeting. Emily will then compile the group's recommendations and present updated forms prior to agency visits. • Quorum expansion and resolution update Dana Hinman said she'd put a resolution together to increase the Committee's quorum number. She sked if the group had a preference for the quorum number; the members said that 9 should be sufficient. Barb Derda asked if the process could be compleiely reopened and started anew; she also stated that she'd like to see fnal applicants brought in for interviews with fhe Committee. Erica gave a brief overview of the roles of the Joint Recommendations Committee (JRC) as she'd served on it in 2016. She explained how county-wide grants work as opposed to federal CDBG funds that are disfributed from the City directly. Barb asked when the City might receive its 2017 allocation from HUD; Erica Azeueta said that it's still very unclear at this poinf given the recent speculation of potential cuts to HUD funds but we're hoping by early summer. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS • The next regular Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 24, 2017. V.
