HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE
MINUTES

1. CALL TO ORDER
The Human Services Committee meeting was called to order by Committee Chair Jason
Berry at 4:05 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 25 West Main Street, Aubum,WA
Committee Members aresent: Dana Riel,Jason Berry,JoAnne Walters, Lela Brugger, Maryelyn
Scholz
Absent: Barbara Derda,Leticia Figueroa ,
Staff present: Human Services Program Coordinator Emily Pearson
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
e Member JoAnne Walters moved to accept the March 27, 2017 meeting minutes;
Member Maryelyn Scholz seconded the motion. All committee members were in
favor of adopting the minutes as submitted.
The March 27, 2017 meeting minutes were approved. It was noted for the record that
the April meeting did not have a qworum; no minutes were kept and no approval was
needed:
III. AGENDA
• Agency visits discussion
The group discussed agency visits throughout the remainder of 2017. Em.ily
Pearson presented dates given by Christ Gommunity Free Clinic, Orion Industries
and The Auburn Food Bank. The members listed dates and times they were
available; Emily will coordinate with these agencies and report back. Erica Azcueta
was able to schedule dates for Auburn Respite and Nexus Youth and Families visits
on June 2, 2017.
• Meeting frequency discussion
In light of less frequent availa4il_ity of inembers during some months, the group
discussed cancelling meetings in July and August. Lela Brugger moved for the vote
and Maryelyn Scholz seconded the motion. The vote passed 5-0. Emily Pearson will
officially cancel meetings in July and August via not�cation to the City Clerk's office.
Maryelyn Scholz spoke about the 2U19-2020 funding cycle. Specifically, holding
discussions prior to the open applicafion cycle about funding priorities from City
Council, in-depth budget discussions and a foeus on residents served. The
Committee was again reminded that they act in an advisory role only.
m Quorum expansion and resolution update
Dana Hinman was unable to attend the meeting so no update was given.
IV. ANNOUNCEiVIENTS
• The next regular Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday,
June 26, 2017.
V. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 4:43 p.m.
