Call to Order The Urban Tree Board met at Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation at 2:05 pm. Tree board members attending were Chair Bryce Landrud, Members Jan Speer, Brooksie Donna Hall, James Tourangeau. Also present at the meeting were Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, Horticulturist Richard Valenti, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The March and April minutes have been motioned for approval by Jan Speer, James Tourangeau seconds. III. Correspondence/Public Input Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly reports a Maple tree at"No Name Park"on Lea Hill has been evaluated and is not doing well. An Alder at the park is also in bad shape. Chair Bryce Landrud shares that some students from the University of Washington and Washington State University have been studying via a DNR research grant why Maple Trees have been declining. They are considering various tree diseases and insects. IV. Old Business Secretary Julie Mehl to have the Cedar Tree at the Methodist Church put through City Council. Len Elliott to accept. V. New Business VI. Board Recommendations/Input VII. Department Report A Forest Stewardship Plan will take place at Mary Olson Farm. It includes going through property and evaluating the health of trees and invasive species. The project is grant funded and will also include volunteers. Bryce recommends having a native plant group come in to identify plants. The Public Works department is planting roughly 20 trees from Western Ave. to West Valley Hwy. Richard Valenti recommended a tree which grows large for the space— species yet to be determined. VIII. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 2:58. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED
