Call to Order, Introductions and Approval of Minutes a) Chair Gollnick called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. b) After a brief welcome, Chair Gollnick asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the November 7, 2017 Arts Commission meeting. Commissioner Jensen moved to approve the November 7,2017 meeting minutes; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Kuhlman. Chair Gollnick called the vote, and the motion passed unanimously. II. Iconic Public Art a) Arts Coordinator Allison Hyde gave a presentation on the current status of the Iconic Publie Art sculpture proposed for installation at the Les Gove Park Campus on South Auburn Way on the parcel referred to as the"Big Daddy's Site." Hyde started by thanking the sub-committee members who were present at the meeting for being involved in the recommendation of the artwork that was being presented. Hyde then explained the process used to select the proposed artwork. Hyde presented a PowerPoint slideshow from the artist with images of the proposed artwork and text describing the placement, structure, materials, and upkeep of the sculpture. Members of the Arts Commission expressed their delight in the whimsical tone of the piece, appreciation of the artists efforts to understand and comply with the subcommittee's recommendations to refine the original proposal, and pleasure with the iconic nature and visibility ant'icipated by the size of the sculpture. Parks, Arts and Recreation Director Daryl Faber ttianked the sub-committee and the Arts Commission for their participation in jurying and recommending an artwork. b) Gommissioner Jensen moved that the Arts Commission recommend the proposed seulpfure to move forward for consideration by City Council. Commissioner Greg Wafson seconded the motion. Chair Gollnick called the vote, the motion passed unanimously. , III. Updates7Upcoming Events e Coordinator Hyde invited Commissioners to attend an Artist Reception for the AVCA art exhibition currently showing at the City Hall Gallery. The reeeption is on Thursday, December 7tn. • Hyde announced that City Council approved the Arts Commission's recommendation that the Call to Artists for Auburn's Poet Laureate be reopened with expanded residency requirements to include North Pierce and South King County. The Call to Artists will be reopened with a deadline of mid-January to allow applications for fhe formerly excluded areas. �• Commissioner Watson announced that Salish Modem, the exhibit at White River Valley Museum will close in two weeks. He invites Commissioners to attend. • Commissioner Colson reminded the Comrnission of the Auburn Symphony Orchesfra's Holiday Concert at the Auburn Performing Arts Center just after fhe holiday party at the conclusion of today's meeting. She encouraged everyone to attend. • Arts& Events Manager Krueger noted the success of this year's Red, White and Blue Holiday Concert on December 3�d. It was a fun, festive, warm evening with 850 in attendance. • Commissioners Colson and Gollnick reviewed the Pacific Ballroom Dance Holiday production. They noted that the production receiveci enthusiastic appreciation by the audience. • Krueger announced the production of Scrooge the Musical at the Auburn Avenue Theater this December 8-10 and December 14 -17 • Hyde thanked outgoing Commissioners Patricia Judd, and Dan Norman for their work on behalf of Auburn Arts Commission. The Commission joined in thanking them for their service to Auburn. a Director Faber thanked City Council Liaison Rich Wagner for his many years of service, both on Auburn's City Council, and as the Council's liaison to the Arts Commission. Commissioners expressed fheir appreciation for everything he has done for the City and the Arts. • Krueger announced that Commissioners were invited to the lobby of the Event Center for a photo in front of the Christmas tree, followed by a holiday celebration to be held in , conjunction with the Parks Board and the Tree Board in Conference Room 3 directly after the conclusion of the meeting. There being no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner Jensen to adjourn, which was seconded by Commissioner Judd. Ghair Gollnick called the vote, and the motion passed.
