Parks and Recreation Board Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, May 8, 2018
5:30 p.m.
Auburn Community& Event Center
I. Call to Order 5:30 pm
Present were members James Jeyaraj, Wayne Osbome, Mike Palko-Dean, Lisa Russell. Department staff
present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary]ulie
Mehl, Guest Val Erickson.
II. Minutes
The March minutes were moved for approval by Wayne Osborne, ]ames Jeyaraj seconds.
III. Committee Member Input
Director Faber welcomes new Park Board member Mike Palko-Dean, who is retired from Bceing and has
been involved in Auburn Jaycees and Auburn Masons.
Member Wayne Osborne would like to see a better presentation at the entry of the Aubum Golf Course,
suggests planting flowers.
IV. Correspondence/Public Input
Auburn resident Val Erickson attending to voice her disapproval for the new public art piece"The Crow".
She had questions about the selection process and would like to be irnolved in future art choices.
Director Faber eicplained the process in which The Crow was chosen —through the Arts Commission as
well as a sub-committee. He states that as with all art, some will like it, others will not.

Will report on Summer programs at]une 5 meeting.
Director Faber presentr a department overview report inclutling health tienefits of parks, funding,
programs,facility rentals, maintenance, budgets, golf course, teen center, theater, arts&culture center,
museum, senior center.
104�h project: Have applied for two grantr for the property, including water access, restrooms, parking,
trails.
Receiyeii a $150,000 grant from King County for lighting at Game Farm Park field #4. Musco pricing is at
$400,000. We are considering fundraising options, lighting would be helpful for fall soccer.
Brannan #1 synthetic field construction will begin this fall.
Restrooms at Les Gove park were funded through a CDBG Grant, to be completed next week. The
lighted crescent project will be complete two weeks after.
Isaac Evans picnirshelter, we contacted the original architect and are in process of repairing the
damaged shelter.
The asphalt is done at the Game Farm park pickle 6all courfs, waiting for it to cure for June 1 opening
date. The drainage issue at Game Farm is very difficult to solve, $100,000 project.
West Auburn lake improvements will include improved treil, benches.
Are currently applying for grants for the Pioneer Cemetery. Working on a master plan and fund raising.
Will have interpretive panels with family stories. 8odies have been located via sonar.
