Review of Tuesday, .tune 12, 2018 Minutes: The June 12, 2018 Minutes were moved
for approval.
Old Business:
• Knotweed - Currently TruGreen applies fertilizer, pesticides and sprays for
weeds at the cemetery. Now, they started to spray for knotweed and the
cemetery has big issues with that in the Memory Heights -Memory Meadow hill
side. Knotweed looks like bamboo and very hard to kill. TruGreen is doing 3-4
application a year and they have done a good job.
• ForestWalk - Cemetery still continues to see great sales in that cremation
section. A chainsaw artist was hired to carve a tree that was taken down
during the spring and it was left 10 feet high. The artist was doing a beaver out
there. Cost was $2,300.
New Business:
• 9th Addition Sealcoot -The 9th Addition is all good road and only sealcoat
was applied. Cost was about $5,000. This work was done by Eagle Asphalt.
• CemSites Search Option - There is a search option on the website now that
allows families to type someone's name and it will show right were the name
is located on a google map. The option also allows to get driving directions to
the site. Cemetery office is saving time making copies and paper for families
when they use the search option online or their smart phones.
• Security - People have left garbage in the lower sections, staff have seen
evidence of homeless and sometimes people have used outlets to charge
cellphones. Craig makes sure that there aren't tents in the undeveloped
areas of the cemetery.
About 3 weeks ago, Craig was called by a neighbor down the street to let
him know that a suspicious man had knocked on her door and then had
walked to the neighbor's house. She called the police prior to calling Craig.
This happened around 1 lam. Craig and one of the ground workers, David
Partridge, went to the neighbor's house to make sure she was okay. Craig
found the man and told him that it was private property and he needed to
leave. Then, the man walked to cemetery property and opened the door to
the shed above cemetery office. At that point police had been called 4
times. Man walked to the 7th Addition and laid down in the middle of the road
and took a nap. Finally police arrived an hour later and he was arrested.
About 5 weeks ago, another incident happened on a Sunday. A family
hadn't locked the door of their vehicle and a purse was stolen. Craig comes
to walk his dog once in a while and have noticed other families walking
around the park. It is good to have good people keeping an eye after
business hours.
• Pioneer Cemetery - Pioneer cemetery was awarded landmark status and
that freed up some grant money to do things down there so it really improved
the park. There are plans to change the entrance gate and doing other
improvements. Planning to do the trail using own staff to lower the cost. Once
it gets closer to start the improvements it will be determined on who's doing
what.
Only people who are direct descendants can get in Pioneer Cemetery. There
are about 1-2 placements a year.
• Yard Waste / Grave Dirt - Cemetery has a 20 yard waste container that gets
emptied 5-6 times a year. Cemetery is getting to the point of looking at ways
to truck some of the grave tailings out because the areas where needed to
be filled are at the end and it is needed to find different options. The upper 9th
is an area that seems to hold water due to some sort of clay so, crew has
been back filling with nice clean sand to help with the drainage. In the past
M&O have helped with that since they have the trucks and the trucking fees
are expensive for things like that.
Reports:
• Budget Update - Compared to last year cemetery is doing well. The Eagle
Columbarium isn't doing as well as expected but sales are doing okay in
ForestWalk. After Phase III in ForestWalk is developed and gets more mature it
will improve the looks of that area. These niches have higher prices than the
other niches but the whole piece is all granite (there is not precast concrete
niches). There are about 4-5 sold so far.
