HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-05-2018 Minutes (2) Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, September 5, 2018 5:30 p.m. Auburn Community & Event Center I. Call to Order 5:30 pm Present were members James Jeyaraj, Michael Palko-Dean, Wayne Osborne, Lisa Russell, Bailey Stober. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, and Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The June minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input Member Bailey Stober would like to find sponsors to help pay for low income summer camp participants. Member Wayne Osborne would like more than one day notice of meeting cancellations. He also noted the Auburn Golf Course looks amazingly better than River Bend Golf Course in Kent. Wayne also requests 2019-2020 Parks Dept. budget. Member Mike Palko-Dean reports the NE side of Pioneer Cemetery has an issue with overgrown blackberry bushes. Member Lisa Russell asks about the house located on the Game Farm Park property, it is to be demolished this fall as it’s in disarray. IV. Correspondence/Public Input V. Old Business VI. New Business Daryl and Jamie have applied for two $500,000 RCO grants. We won one for the water front property on 104th. Would like to develop into next park with 34 car lot, restrooms, shelter, asphalt trail and information kiosk. VII. Department Report (Faber/Kelly) The Auburn International Farmers Market at 13 weeks in 2017 had 18,000 shoppers. This year it’s up to 20,000. Total sales last year to date were $188,000, this year $260,000. Les Gove public art: The Crow is progressing slowly, there is an issue with the engineer – ETA spring. Les Gove Memorial: Lighting to be installed next week, some incorrect tiles will be changed out, 4 benches to be installed. Park Rules & Signage: City Clerks get a lot of calls regarding parks rules; ACC vs Policy. Dogs on leashes, open hours etc. Parks Rules signs are at all parks. Users can be trespassed for infractions in Park Policy Manual. We are having a hard time finding a contractor to work on the wind damaged shelter at Isaac Evans park. Game Farm Park drainage issue – Some work will be done in-house, will be a $100,000 project. Storm & Parks Departments will work together to complete before the new year. Turf field install to begin late fall on Brannan #1. Will do away with small lot behind the White River Valley Museum and install a classroom area with a train structure for kids while they wait for their field trip to begin. Received a Washington State Heritage grant for upgrades. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
