Review of Tuesday, August 14, 2018 Minutes: The August 14, 2018 Minutes were
moved for approval.
Old Business:
• Kaisi Wang Service - A Chinese lady came to talk to Craig about the passing
of her son. He was only 30 years -old and died of a brain tumor. He was
cremated and his ashes were sent to China. He was the only child and as part
of the traditions he was sent where his elders were. She needed a place to
come because his soul was still in the house. She purchased a plot in the Stn
addition, a burial vault and a casket. No funeral home was involved since
there wasn't a body just belongings. She brought a construction paper
cutout of her son's body which was laid in the casket and dressed. Before the
burial, the buttons were cut off from his clothing. If was a very small graveside
service at 8:30am with only her, her new husband, wife of deceased and her
mom. The cost of this burial was over $13,000. She put on hold another 3 plots.
• Brush Cutter- The city has big brush cutter and M&O came to help with
bushes, like blackberries in some areas of the cemetery.
New Business:
• Tree Removal - Cemetery had a big Nordic Spruce that wasn't doing very
good and it needed to be removed.
• New JD Gator-The new gator was shipped in and there was apart that
needed to be ordered so the gator isn't at the cemetery yet.
• Flower Pick -Up -This is a touchy subject. There has been more ethnic groups
with their own ideas to bring to their love one's grave so, cemetery staff have
been more forgiving for young people or new burials. There is a collection of
many things that eventually need to be removed such as status, balloons,
pinwheels, efc. and staff is trying to accommodate for families to give them
some time to grief. Unfortunately, when more people see it they think it's okay
to have them. There is a written flower policy in the lobby so the cemetery
staff will receive a little kick back about it when something gets removed.
Flower pick up is scheduled for Mondays so the grounds can be mowed.
Sometimes Craig will call a family to let them know about the policy but he
doesn't have time to be making those calls, just occasionally. Anything of
value doesn't get thrown away. They are kept on the shelves in the garage
and families are welcome to come pick them up during business hours. If
these items haven't been picked up by the family in a year then, they will be
thrown away. The other issue is that flowers sometimes get stolen and
moved to a different grave so it's hard for families when their flowers go
missing.
• Veteran's Day- There is a volunteer group that would like to come help put
flags on the markers in the veteran section.
There is a lady that lost young girl in ForestWalk and she wanted to do
something for the infant's graves and she asked Craig what she could do for
them. Craig indicated that there are 3 designated infant sections and she
could do flowers or small wreaths for them. A group would like to come and
clean those up and place some Christmas wreaths on all the baby graves.
Reports:
• Budget Update - August hasn't been typically a good month but this year
was a very good one. The Wishing Well hasn't had a lot of placement so
Craig is thinking about redoing it again just because some people don't like
the idea of being a collective vault. It is a nice area that it could have a more
attractive structure leaving the same vault in place.
