Call to Order The Urban Tree Board met at Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation at 2:00 pm. Tree board members attending were Board Chair Bryce Landrud, Members Brooksie Donna Hall, Jan Speer, James Tourangeau. Also present at the meeting were Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, Street/Vegetation Manager Andy Boswell, Horticulturist Richard Valenti, Parks Maintenance Worker Trent Mannon and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The August & October minutes were approved. III. Correspondence/Public Input IV. Old Business Richard, Trent and Julie knocked on doors on G St SE and got 50% approval for a tree planting. Jamie to complete applying for the grant. Silva Cell update: Board chair Landrud reports that Silva Cell units are plastic, porous cubes one cubic meter in size. Concrete or asphalt can be installed over the cells. This system alleviates the common root issue and the trees are healthier. V. New Business Street/Vegetation Manager Andy Boswell brought photos of tree roots buckling retaining wall at 218 G St SE. M & O would like to remove tree causing the issue, the board agrees and discusses possible future street tree planting project. Douglas Fir tree at Auburndale Park to be nominated as 2019 Heritage Tree. Bryce asks if we can review / update code stating tree planting strips must be 5’ wide. Jamie to contact proper department. VI. Board Recommendations/Input VII. Department Report The November volunteer planting held at Fenster Park facilitated by Earth Corps took longer than anticipated. May look at other options for future projects. Parks Maintenance is focusing on storm clean up. VIII. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 3:05.
