HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-05-2019 Minutes Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, March 5, 2019 5:30 p.m. Auburn Community & Event Center I. Call to Order 5:30 pm Present were members Michael Hassen (chair), Katie Helton, James Jeyaraj, Wayne Osborne, Mike Palko- Dean, Lisa Russell, Bailey Stober. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, Museum Director Rachael McAlister, Secretary Julie Mehl, and citizen of West Hill, Alyssa Johnson. II. Minutes The January minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input Board member Lisa Russell suggested we install coat hooks in the Fitness Center. Cottonwoods at Isaac Evans park: Board member Wayne Osborne asked if the trees have been evaluated, Jamie Kelly explains they have, and budget allows the removal of 10 per year. Parks Department Horticulturist deems which are least safe. City will replace with suitable species. IV. Correspondence/Public Input Citizen Alyssa Johnson discussed a 20 acre parcel on the west hill which was purchased by The Pulte Group for residential development. Alyssa would like the City to purchase the 20 acres and build a park. V. Old Business VI. New Business Auburn Golf Course Fees: The fees at the Auburn Golf Course have increased $1.00 each. Director Faber welcomed new member, Katie Helton. Katie lives in North Auburn and works for Boeing. VII. Department Report (Faber/Kelly) Planning Manager Jamie Kelly reports the Urban Tree Board selected a Lebanon Cedar as the Arbor Day Tree. Arbor Day will be held April 18 at 11:00 am, location tbd. Museum Director Rachael McAlister showed a fun video about the Stream to Sea Program at Mary Olson Farm. She discussed filed trips at the White River Valley Museum and the Mary Olson Farm. Kindergarteners and 3rd graders in Auburn enjoy their field trips at the museum, while 1st graders enjoy theirs at the Mary Olson Farm. There have been a lot of out of district field trips scheduled as well. They have hosted up to 720 children in a week’s time. Rachael also shared the new exhibit beginning May 4 by the Smithsonian, “Hometown Teams” with local images including a 1920’s Sumo wrestling team in Auburn. Director Faber discussed a grant we applied to with 4Culture for $30,000. This would provide items needed for the Auburn Alley project such as lanterns, sitting wall, interactive displays and more. Faber also discussed the grant for the property on 104th, we will find out in June if we are approved for $500,000 for the riverfront property. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm.
