HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-07-2019 Minutes Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 7, 2019 5:30 p.m. Auburn Community & Event Center I. Call to Order 5:30 pm Present were members Katie Helton, James Jeyaraj, Wayne Osborne, Mike Palko-Dean, Lisa Russell. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly and Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The April minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input Board member Osborne reported the Auburn Golf Course looks good. IV. Correspondence/Public Input A group of citizens from the West Hill area attended to inquire about the city’s plans for the West Hill lake. Director Faber assured them we are keeping the park natural, no major changes or updates, no heavy marketing and only creating 5 or 6 parking stalls. Currently investigating easements. V. Old Business “Crow with Fries” public art piece will be installed May 15, with the “landing” celebration on May 31. The Isaac Evans picnic shelter will be completed / opened by Memorial Day weekend. The new regulations for the Game Farm Wilderness Campground began May 1; new pricing and summer rules for length of stay in a 30 day period. VI. New Business The City doesn’t have a specific policy regarding metal detectors. Director Faber presented some policies of other cities. The board preferred the following - Metal detecting: The use of metal detecting in any park shall be allowed as long as it does not interfere with reserved or organized sports or activities. There should be no noticeable impact to park property resulting from metal detecting activity. Any finds that appears to have historical or archaeological significance may not be removed from where it was found and must be reported to a Department employee. VII. Department Report (Faber) The Alleyway Update: Three students involved with the alleyway project have graduated, we have met with them in order to keep them involved throughout the entire process. Brannan #1 turf install project: having issues with unsuitable soil, needed to over-excavate and bring in fill. Three damaged monuments have been replaced at the Pioneer Cemetery with help from the White River Buddhist Temple. Director Faber reminded the board of the upcoming exhibit at the White River Valley Museum “Hometown Heroes” by the Smithsonian. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
