Kear, Eydie Leighty, Anne Marie Natali, Dinah Rau, Sirichanh Sisavatdy, Pam Smith, Kent Sprague, Kenneth Greg Watson . Staff: Arts & Events Manager, Julie Krueger; Arts Coordinator, Allison Hyde; Arts & Events Assistant, Mary Ellen Bowers Guests: Rachael McAlister, White River Valley Museum; Monica Tolas, Interurban Center for the Arts Excused. Pat Judd I. Call to Order a. Call to Order — Chair Leighty called the meeting to order at 4:31 PM. b. Introduction and welcome to new Arts Commissioner, Tammy Dwight. Tammy introduced herself and shared some thoughts on her passion for the arts. Commissioners and staff introduced themselves to all in attendance and noted how or why they serve on the Arts Commission. c. Approval of minutes —Chair Leighty asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the February 4, 2020 Arts Commission meeting. Commissioner Sprague moved that the minutes be accepted as written. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion. Vice Chair Leighty called the vote, and the motion passed unanimously. II. Auburn School District Presentation — Ryan Foster, Associate Superintendent, Principal Leadership & School Programs for Auburn School District was unable to attend the meeting as planned. Arts & Events Manager Julie Krueger, relayed Foster's apologies and distributed a document he provided outlining the way the Auburn School District understands and uses Washington's Arts Standards. The document includes the Visual Arts Standards for Kindergarten through grade 5. Ill. GRC Interurban Center for the Arts Presentation — Arts Coordinator Allison Hyde introduced Monica Tolas, Program Coordinator for the Interurban Center for the Arts, a program of Green River College Foundation. Tolas provided a Power Point presentation describing the arts education program provided by the Interurban Center for the Arts. The successful program works with 33 schools in 7 school districts in the Puget Sound region, as well as providing a modified program through 6 YMCAs and a few afterschool programs. The program is currently running in only 2 of Auburn School District's 14 elementary schools. Commissioners brainstormed ways Tolas might alter the program's approach to gain a foothold in the school district. IV. White River Valley Museum Presentation — Rachael McAlister, Director of White River Valley Museum and Mary Olson Farm, presented a program on the museum's cultural, heritage, and history education programs. McAlister described the ways the museum addresses state standards and collaborates with community organizations, volunteers, and funding partners in the presentation of their successful programs. V. News and Updates a. Calls to artists & upcoming classes — Two calls to artists will be closing soon. The Mary Olson Farm Artist in Residence program and the Downtown Sculpture Gallery calls to artists will close on March 19, 2020. Arts Coordinator Hyde reviewed the jurying process for both programs and alerted commissioners that they would be receiving email instructions on jurying the applications, Upcoming classes mentioned include: Fused Glass, Orizomegami (.Japanese paper folding and dyeing,) and Pysanky Ukrainian Egg Etching. b, BRAVO series - Staff provided information about upcoming BRAVO shows through April, c. Upcoming April meeting — Hyde notified commissioners that the April 7, 2020 arts commission meeting's primary topic will be selection of the sculptures for the 2020-2021 Downtown Sculpture Gallery program. VI. Adjourn There being no further business, Commissioner Gordon moved to adjourn the meeting, Commissioner Sprague seconded the motion, Chair Leighty called the vote, the motion passed.
