HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-03-2020 Minutes Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, March 3, 2020 5:30 p.m. Auburn Community & Event Center I. Call to Order 5:39 pm Present were members: Michael Hassen (chair), Wayne Osborne, Mike Palko-Dean, Lisa Russell. Department staff present were Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, City Council Member James Jeyaraj and Secretary Julie Mehl. West Hill residents Alysa Johnson and Bri Holt were also in attendance. II. Minutes The January minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input Member Mike Palko-Dean attended a game at Brannan and reports that folks were very happy about the field improvements. Jamie added that numerous lights have recently been replaced. IV. Correspondence/Public Input Residents Alyssa Johnson and Bri Holt live on the West Hill and are attending the meeting to request the Parks Department purchase property and install a park with a playground on the West Hill. There are a few parcels suggested and discussed. V. Old Business The Arbor Day planting will take place at 11:00 am, April 16 at Pete Lewis Nature Park on the West Hill. VI. New Business (Kelly) The City is looking at the Watts Property located above the Mary Olson Farm. Conservation Futures Grant funds may be re-allocated to purchase the property. The City will apply for a King County Youth Sports Grant to build a bicycle pump track near Cedar Lanes Park for our Rec Riders programs. VII. Department Report (Kelly) Bad weather has slowed the alleyway project, and there is a power pole / stage issue. The Game Farm #4 lighting project has been delayed until March 9. Will minimize impacts on Special Events and field rentals as much as possible during the upgrade. The Pete Lewis Nature Park on the West Hill now has had the following amenities: Walking trail, view point, picnic table, bridge, bench, oversized porch type swing. The Arts & Culture Center project should start next week after the Professional Services Agreement has been finalized and signed. The bull pens at Brannan didn’t get completed, backups will be built. Mounds & home plate areas will be built up. We are waiting for the signatures on the Professional Service Agreement for the 104th St project, Jamie is hoping to have utilities installed this construction season. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
