VII. Department Report (Faber/Kelly/Witte/Pachciarz)
The Parks Department has won grants totaling $155,000 for Rec Riders and SEEK programs. Many
bicycles have been purchased, bike storage trailers, tools, helmets etc. A free summer program including
bicycling & STEM at Lea Hill and Game Farm parks have been very successful. Next spring we hope to
have Rec Riders at the Cedar Lanes pump track. These programs will benefit many kids who wouldn’t
ordinarily get to ride bikes.
We will be updating our policies to allow mobile food vendors in parks. We’ll accept applications,
establish a flat rate and rotate diverse vendors such as BBQ, burgers, tacos to differing well utilized
parks. This program will eventually expand to Plaza Park and the Auburn Ave Theater Alleyway.
The Squirrely Summer Scavenger Hunt ran from July 1 through July 11 and had over 1000 participants!
There was a raffle with numerous prizes and participants ranged from age 8 to 88. The hunt was set up
in 16 parks and we received many positive comments.
The Auburn Ave Theater sustained water and smoke damage from the downtown fire on July 24. There
was no structural damage and repairs will be covered under insurance. The AAT should be open in
September.
A Kaboom grant application has been submitted for a much needed new community built playground at
Fulmer Park. If we are a recipient we will be connected with a sponsor and will utilize volunteers for the
project.
The split rail fence at Isaac Evans is to be replaced within the next few months.
Seasonal Summer staff is finally at a level where full time Parks Maintenance employees can focus on
summer projects. Trillium will be sending a group 3 days per week to help downtown maintenance and
at the Community Center.
The 104th Ave project design is at 90% completion. Covid, flood plain staff turnover has affected the
timeline of this project. Will go to bid next spring and will include a pre-fabricated restroom.
The Arts & Culture Center will go out for bids in 3 weeks, award process will begin in October, building to
be open in Spring.
Construction at Cedar Lanes for the pump track will begin in October by Evergreen Mountain Bike
Alliance, hopefully to be open by Spring.
