Tuesday, November 2, 2021

In Person & Virtual Meeting
I. Call to Order
The Urban Tree Board meeting began at 2:10 pm
Tree board members attending were Board Chair Bryce Landrud, Members Linda Bielejec, Tanya Galat,
and Brooksie Donna Hall. Also present at the meeting were Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, Trent
Mannon from Parks Maint, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
The August and October minutes were approved.
III. Correspondence/Public Input
The Auburn Garden Club harvested 1250 Mason Bees this year, which was 250 over their goal. They will
be adding 5 new houses in various parks next year. This program is proving to be very promising.
IV. Old Business
Heritage tree choices were discussed, will move forward with Scarlet Oak at Veterans Memorial Park and
Weeping Willow at Fenster park.
V. New Business
VI. Board Recommendations/Input
Linda suggests Heritage tree photos and article for Auburn Magazine.
VII. Department Report
One tree fell during the last wind storm, an Alder located at Lewis Lake Park on West Hill.
Bryce reports he is a contracted consultant for the City of Federal Way. They have a system in place
where if residents call with a tree issue Bryce can respond & evaluate immediately.
Jamie Kelly is renewing the City’s Tree City USA designation, 18 years as a Tree City USA!
Trent is considering installing fall/winter style baskets with ivy, fern, mums, evergreens.
