HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-05-2021 Park Board 2021 Minutes PB10 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, October 5, 2021 5:30 p.m. Virtual and In Person I. Call to Order 5:36 pm Present were Members: Peter Di Turi, Katie Helton, Wayne Osborne, and Lisa Russell. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Recreation Coordinator Kjerstin Lange, AmeriCorp volunteer Brandi Reano and Parks Administrative Assistant Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The August minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input Peter reported the cornhole participants were very appreciative of the league and is hopeful this will continue to add life to the downtown area. IV. Department Report (Faber/Lange/Reano) Kjerstin and Brandi reported the city received a $90,000 SEEK grant and had 3 weeks to hire staff and plan programs for underserved youth in Auburn. Two free programs were created, one at Lea Hill, one at Game Farm Park which included summer learning, STEM, bicycle training, games and active play. Some of the funds will be used to enhance the Fee Waiver program too so youth will be able to benefit by attending a week of summer camp. The 14 mile Interurban Trail which links 5 cities, hasn’t had a service agreement in place since 2002 and is in need of repair. A 5.5 million levy for repairs & maintenance was approved in 2020, it’s a 25 year agreement with a 25 year renewal and will initially focus on pavement repair, access control and safety features. The contract for the Arts & Culture Center was approved through Auburn City Council. This project will be a great addition for downtown and will include Auburn Arts Alley. King County will be offering $810 million in grant funding, of which 5.4 million will be for Targeted Equity Grants. These grants will be geared for capital projects in low income areas, which Auburn qualifies for. The City will apply for funding for the Mary Olson Farm. Starting October 25, participants 12 & older will be required to prove they’ve been vaccinated to attend Parks programs as well as shows at the Auburn Ave Theater. VIII.
