Parks and Recreation Board Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, March 8, 2022
5:30 p.m.
Virtual and In Person at Community & Event Center
I. Call to Order 5:31 pm
Present were Chair Michael Hassen; Members Peter Di Turi, Katie Helton, Wayne Osborne, Mike Palko-
Dean and Lisa Russell. Department staff present were Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly, Parks
Recreation Manager Kevin Witte and Administrative Assistant Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
The February minutes were approved.
III. Committee Member Input
Member Di Turi mentioned the Parks brochure, he’s happy to see so many programs including the return
of special events.
Member Russell asked about homeless at Game Farm Park. Jamie responded it was a person who
needed services and the city’s outreach employee, Kent Hay is currently working with him.

V. Old Business
Jamie Kelly updated the board on the progress at the Arts & Culture Center which includes stone
restoration/cleaning, plugging holes, tuck pointing, sealing.
VI. New Business
Recreation Manager Witte shared a Request for Proposal for food trucks at Les Gove, Game Farm, Isaac
Evans, Sunset and Brannan parks for a daily fee ranging from $49 - $99 per day.
VII. Department Report
Summer programs: Recreation Manager Witte reports the city received grants totaling just over
$230,000. The funds will be used for 3 programs: Fee waivers to cover a full week of summer camp,
Auburn Outside and Auburn Adventure program, and Rec & Roll, a mobile unit roving at different parks
throughout the summer.
Parks Recreation Manager Witte and Recreation Coordinator Rick Bruya toured the Kraken Facility at the
Outlook Collection and discussed with staff ways we can work together to serve our customers.
Parks Planning Manager Kelly shares the Downtown Plaza is wrapping up. We collected funds for storage
which helped fund the project. We hope to activate the space by summer.
Parks Planning Manager Kelly reports the main driving areas in the Community Center parking lot will be
replaced with asphalt. Bids have been accepted and work will begin early April.
Parks Planning Manager Kelly reports the Dykstra foot bridge will be inspected by David Evans &
Associates. The bridge was built in the 1960’s.
