City of Auburn Arts Commission Meeting
Tuesday, May 3, 2022
Meeting Minutes
Present:
Arts Commission: Kristine De Leon, John Harris, Eydie Leighty, Trisenda Mayfield, Ann Marie Natali,
Chris Olds, Tori Olsen, Dinah Rau, Kent Sprague, Kenneth Greg Watson
Excused: Ana Kear
Unexcused: Tammy Dwight
Staff: Allison Hyde, Arts Coordinator
I. Call to Order
a. Call to Order – Chair Leighty called the meeting to order at 4:32 PM.
b. Public comment – Chair Leighty asked if there were any comments from the public. There were
no public comments.
c. Approval of Arts Commission minutes – Chair Leighty briefly welcomed Commissioners to the
meeting and asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the March 1, 2022 Arts
Commission meeting. Commissioner Sprague moved that the minutes be accepted as written.
Vice Chair Natali seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
II. Downtown Sculpture Gallery Selection
a. Arts Coordinator Allison Hyde presented the results of the online jury review process for the
2022-23 Downtown Sculpture Gallery program applications.
b. The Arts Commission discussed and voted for favorite sculptures in each pedestal category,
with top voted sculptures being selected for display and those not selected serving as
alternates. Sculptures proposed for selection in 2022-23 include: Jan Hoy’s “Geo Cubes,” Ed
McCarthy’s “Harp Unstrung,” Jenny Ellsworth’s “Tough Puff,” Lloyd Whanell’s “Silent Words,”
Ken Turner’s “Cipher,” Jennifer Kuhns’ “Growing Love,” Gerry Newcomb’s “Blue Spire,” Matt
Babcock’s “Blue Spoonbill,” Don Anderson’s “Burning Tree,” Mir Agol’s “Conduit,” and Jill
Drllevich’s “Breathe Deep.” Additional sculptures will be considered for alternates, including:
MacRae Wylde’s “Light Column 11,” Timm Duffy’s “Stargazer,” Steve Tyree’s “Ram,” and
Nathan Robles’ “The Struggle.”
c. Chair Leighty asked for a motion to approve the selection of sculptures as proposed for the
2022-23 Downtown Sculpture Gallery program. Commissioner Watson moved that the
sculptures be selected as discussed. Commissioner Olds seconded the motion. Motion passed
unanimously.
III. News and Updates
a. Arts Coordinator Hyde shared updates on the new gallery exhibitions at City Hall and the Art on
Main Gallery, and an art and garden show event coming up.
b. Commissioner Sprague shared an update about the opening day of the Farmer’s Market on

June 5, 2022 and how the Auburn Rotary Club would be placing a new Peace Pole onsite
alongside collaborating cultural groups.
c. Commissioner Watson shared that he will be retiring after 21 years with the Auburn School
District.
IV. Adjourn Arts Commission - There being no further business, Arts Commissioner Rau moved to
adjourn the meeting, Commissioner Olds seconded the motion. Motion passed. The meeting
adjourned at 5:39 PM.
