Arts Coordinator Hyde presented the options for a Purchase Award from the 2021-22 Downtown Sculpture Gallery program. Hyde also discussed the current state of three purchased sculptures that have yet to be placed in permanent sites with pedestals and some major restoration needs to maintain the existing collection. Given the budget needs for these two things, it was recommended that the City opt to not select a Purchase Award, and use the funding to maintain and restore permanent collection artworks, and to pay for pedestal fabrication for artworks already purchased in past years. c. Greg Watson moved that the City forego purchasing a sculpture from this year’s slate in order to retain the money in the budget for use in repairing current public art or placing pieces the City already owns. John Harris seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. III. Project Support Grants a. The Arts Commission discussed a newly drafted scoring rubric for the selection of the annual Project Support Grants. Commissioner Watson noted that it might be beneficial to edit the text slightly in the “ability to complete the project” category to make sure that those artists and arts organizations who have new projects and less experience still have a fair chance to be selected if they show the ability and good planning to execute a successful project. b.
