Parks and Recreation Board Meeting

Wednesday, September 5, 2023
5:30 p.m.
Virtual and In Person at Auburn Community & Event Center
I. Call to Order 5:40pm
Attendance: Chairperson Michael Hassen, Matt Jennings, Wayne Osborne,
and Tiffany Lindsay were present. Staff in attendance were Director Daryl
Faber, Park Planning Manager Thaniel Gouk, DEI Analyst Kia McGlone,
and Administrative Assistant Alexa Bragg

Metal detecting ordinance going forward to Council mid-October for
approval
Director Faber informed the board that there were bids put out in regards
to the Tot Lot Forest Villa, received a couple under $100,000
Tot Lot Forest Villa is projected to be done by 12/25/2023
Board vacancy
DEI Analyst Kia McGlone spoke with the Park Board regarding translation
services. She is spending time researching needs and different translation
services that are cost-effective and efficient when in use. Kia mentioned
the goal is to assist employees that are in the field and to increase
communication
VII. Department Report
Park Planning Manager Thaniel Gouk and Parks Director Daryl Faber met
with PROS plan consultant regarding impact fees, deferred maintenance
and Capital Projects related to short term (1-6 years) and long-term (6-
20-year) aspirations. Director Daryl Faber provided handouts detailing the
next 6 years of projects and their timelines. Director Faber spoke about
adding covered shelters that are multi-use for the community to be in
determined community parks
City of Auburn was awarded a $50,000 grant through NRPA, one of five
awarded this grant. In addition to the grant, the Parks Department
received a mower from Bobcat, who was also a part of the grant
