HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-17-2009 1 Minutes of the Auburn Airport Advisory Committee November 17, 2009 8:03 a.m. Northwest Aviation College Classroom 1 Attendance: " AAB Members: Robert Myers (Chair), Mark Babcock, Michael Kopp, Council Member: Bill Peloza Tenant: Gerry Coon, Athal Williams . Airport Management: Jamelle Garcia, Mike Shipman, Linda Eskesen First order of business was to approve the minutes of the September 2009 meeting. Minutes were approved as written. Old Business Taxiway Construction Update -Construction is complete. One warranry item needs to be fixed by ICON and extra signage installed. Grant paperwork has been completed and signed by the City officials and sent to FAA for reimbursement. This project is now completed. Storm Water Update - Ms.Coleman has given the authorization for Reid Middleton to prepare an estimate for a storm water survey. The survey then will be reviewed with all current plans " related to storm water as it affects the airport. Hangar Rows 2-8 Condition Survey -Twelve header beams have been replaced in these rows and aggregate washed, sealed and painted. This project is now completed. Annual Review of Airport Rules and Regulations- Mr. Garcia will contact Steve Gross, assistant City attorney regarding enforcement of the Airport Rules and Regs. Mr. Kopp suggested having a target date for review and completion of Rules and Regs with Mr. Babcock and Mr. Shipman by December 15`n Helicopter Noise- A few complaints continue to be received by Auburn citizens. Dan Hyde, City Attorney, has been doing some research on possible solutions which the City could implement , and enforce. Noise complaints at night might be from Guardian One helicopter. It was suggested by Mr. Kopp that we contact the police department and get an activity report so we can better - respond to complaints. Mr. Garcia will on contact the police department regarding Guardian One activity. AWOS- Mr. Garcia reports he spoke with Jeff Winters of the FAA Airport Division and was told , funding for AWOS (about $70,000.) would not be cost effective in Auburn, since SeaTac and Renton are in such close proximity with their weather reporting capabilities. Additionally Mr. Garcia reported that in the same discussion he discussed an obstruction survey to be able to remove some restriction to the current instrument approach. Mr. Winters response was that the FAA would not currently support this expense; again stating that the cost benefit for the expense would not greatly affect the safety or utilization of the airport. A motion was made seconded and unanimously carried that this agenda item be removed. A guest questioned if the airport could reposition the Super Unicom to a better location to increase the line of site distance. Also it was discussed to see if there is an upgade or newer Super Unicom. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to look into sites that would increase the line of sight distance for the Super Unicom and also to research an upgrade or replacement to the current Super Unicom. Hangar Rows 9& 10 -Mr. Garcia said Rob of R&M Steel had recommended new panels and hardware be installed in these hangars. R&M would sell the materials at cost, plus installation. R&M did not recommend snow coating as an option. Mr. Peloza suggested getting the job out for bid and contacting Brenda Heineman, City of Auburn, and facilities manager. Traffic pattern option for noise abatement- A traffic pattern option has been submitted to the FAA, a response is expected within a week. The City can assign a traffic pattern to publish. Howard Hanson Dam Situation and the airport (new map) - The grout curtain installed at the dam seems to be working. Chance of flooding is now reported as 1 in 33 as of November 15` New Business: 2010 rates and Fees- AAB recommends to the City that considering the economic situation and current occupancy rates that the current rates and fees for 2009 be maintained for 2010. A request was made for the next meeting that occupancy rates be available to the Airport Advisory Board. Expiring terms of AAB members- Lee Potter and Bob Myers terms are expiring and both are willing to remain on the advisory board. , WAAS Upgrade to Instrument Approach - A motion was made and seconded to file an application for a WAAS approach upgrade to the cunent instrument approach. Mr. Garcia will fill out the application and the City of Auburn will sign it since they are the Airport sponsor. Meeting adjourned at 9:40 AM Respectfully submitted, .
